Felicity- a Forgotten Dog
Forgotten Dog
Right now there’s a dog (well many dogs) - that are the forgotten ones. They are the ones in shelters that are NOT out for the public to see- they are in the back… in the stray wing or whatever each shelter calls it. They don’t get to interact with volunteers or potential adopters. Many were once someone’s dog… but now they are forgotten. Out of sight…out of mind.
Why do I say it this way? Because right now I have one of the forgotten dogs. Someone must have loved her once…as she knows some commands… she wags her tail and wants love… she has a happy hopeful face… but yet she was in the unseen wing at the local shelter.
When a plea came to help a group of dogs that were “timestamped” (which means there time is up at a specific day/time)… this dog was in that group. I volunteer at our local shelter but had never seen her- she was never in the adoption wing- so I didn’t “know” her… so I sadly didn’t pay as much attention as I might have had it been a dog I had personally handled. (Lesson learned)

Another volunteer had taken the time to go meet this dog- she saw the potential- this dog was timestamped for anxiety basically- in the shelter environment she was overly stressed and showing behavior connected to this… but luckily the volunteer thought she just needed a chance.
I happened to be close to the shelter when I was told if the dog could find a short term foster for the next few days- the volunteer would be able to take her… the dog only had 30 minutes left to find a foster ...so… she’s here with us as a short term house guest of course LOL (you saw that coming right?)
So now let’s get to the happy part- this dog left the shelter- took a deep breath- and it was if she reinvented herself. She was no longer the anxiety filled stressed out dog with a time stamp on her… she was now happy go lucky Felicity!! Dogs are amazingly resilient!! It was if she knew this was her new opportunity and she decided to make the most of it!!

The new Felicity stepped out of the car- walked like a pro on the leash (no pulling)- she looked around the farm- took it all in- no barking or carrying on- and I swear re-invented herself into the dog she knew she could be- the dog anyone will be lucky to have in their life… and all this because one volunteer (her name is Maggie) took the time to see past everything and give this dog a chance
Joe and I are lucky enough to spend some time with her before she moves on to her actual foster…but I KNOW this dog will have applications piling up for her to get adopted! She is truly a special girl. I know I love all the dogs- but this one is going to be someone’s true heart dog❤️…I can feel it.
